AHAChem: Become a chemical ambassador!

Hazardous chemicals are harmful to human health and can negatively affect the resilience of ecosystems. Large amounts of toxic emissions come from private households: products used daily such as cleaning agents, cosmetics, electrical devices and textiles permanently give off substances (e.g. phthalates, alkylphenols). Our project “AHAChem – everyday options for reducing emissions and reducing exposure to dangerous chemicals” has set itself the goal of training chemical ambassadors and thus reducing dangerous substances in private households that ultimately end up in the environment.

We would like to multiply the successful “household checks” concept from our pioneering project “NonHazCity” nationwide. The households are informed about harmful substances in their home and more sustainable alternatives and are supported during the conversion. That is why we train voluntary “chemical ambassadors” as part of a short online training course and enable them to advise households. The ambassadors learn practical knowledge of chemicals, communication strategies and the basics of self-organization. The materials should be made available to the public so that there is still the possibility of learning and applying the knowledge after the end of the project.
