On 20 April 2023, the INTERREG project NonHazCity has a very special date coming up: representatives of the project partners’ city municipalities from Hamburg, Stockholm, Helsinki, and Riga will travel to Strasbourg to the European Parliament together with two partner organisations. Within the symposium entitled Prevention and protection against endocrine disrupting chemicals – What roles for an alliance of cities and local authorities in Europe? a special panel session dedicated to local actions, learnings from the Baltic Interreg project NonHazCity will take place in the afternoon. The Mayor of Strasbourg, Jeanne Barseghian, will be joined by Members of the European Parliament, city officials and representatives from other environmental organisations.
The event will highlight the important role that local authorities can play in reducing chemical pollution and aims to initiate the building of a European alliance on this issue in Strasbourg.
As improvements in European chemicals legislation are slow, people and nature continue to be exposed to dangerous pollutants – including endocrine disrupting chemicals that are everywhere in our daily lives. For this reason, the symposium aims to promote knowledge transfer between initiatives launched at local, regional, or national level to raise people’s awareness, to carry out prevention and to reduce exposure to harmful chemicals, especially for vulnerable groups.
The symposium is organised by the French environmental organisation Réseau Environnement Santé (RES) in cooperation with the EDC-Free Europe Coalition and the Baltic Environmental Forum Germany.
