Lucas Schmitz’s career path includes several stations: Among other things, he worked as a diving instructor, as a research assistant at the Centre for Earth System Research and Sustainability at the University of Hamburg, as a high school teacher, as a project manager at Jordsand e. V. and Sana Mare e. V. and has now found his way to the Baltic Environmental Forum Germany, where he works as a referent for the change towards a more sustainable world.
I consider the climate crisis to be the greatest challenge of our time. Societal change is urgently needed to prevent the overshooting of numerous tipping points in the Earth system. The change must above all include a drastic reduction in our consumption of resources and a new identification with nature. Promoting the transformation needed to achieve this is what drives me. To this end, I work with the Baltic Environmental Forum Germany on projects in the fields of chemicals management, climate protection, circular economy and marine protection.
