“We are the first generation to feel the effect of climate change and the last generation who can do something about it.”, said former US President Barack Obama in 2014. Climate change has finally become part of our daily life. However, to realize and accept that it is up to us as individualy to rethink our personal consumption still seems to be a challenge for the majority of people. But without support and pressure of the population, a change in politics will be slow and ineffective.
I would like to show that a more sustainable lifestyle does not necessarily come with renunciation, but with finding alternatives. To think twice about simple things such as your nutrition will not only lead to better environmental compatibility, but will also impact many other areas like health, social equality and sustainability and change it to the better. With 7.67 billion human beings currently living on earth, environmental protection is turning more and more into a challenge. Still, it is our responsibility to make a change. In order to reach as many as possible with our environmental projects and make my contribution, I decided to spend my voluntary ecological year at BEF Germany.
Tim graduated from the Lise-Meitner-Gymnasium in Hamburg and is now doing a Voluntary Ecological Year.
