With inspiring presentations, exciting discussions, and many practical examples, the Final Conference of the Interreg project BALTIPLAST took place on December 10 and 11, 2025, in Turku, Finland. Representatives from various cities in the Baltic Sea region shared their experiences in reducing single-use plastics and showed how strategies can be translated into concrete measures – from sustainable city festivals and educational initiatives to innovative tools and guidelines. Particularly impressive were scientific contributions on microplastics in marine ecosystems and presentations by committed students who presented their own research results.
Panels and workshops made it clear that the transition to less plastic goes far beyond technical solutions – it requires a change in awareness, emotional motivation, and political action. Finally, the partners presented the new BALTIPLAST platform, which will pool knowledge and experience on plastic avoidance in the Baltic Sea region in the future. The conference in Turku thus marked not only the end of the project, but also the beginning of a strong network that will continue to drive progress toward a plastic-free future.
