NonHazCity

Projekt NonHazCity

Hazardous substances in our everyday life? We live in constant contact with them almost everywhere – no matter if through technical gadgets, packaging, laundry, furniture, cosmetics or clothes as well as on the job, in offices, hotels or in hair salons.

With our Project NonHazCity – Innovative management solutions for minimizing emissions of hazardous substances from urban areas in the Baltic Sea area we seek to identify those dangerous substances. In the ongoing progress of the project, which started in March 2016, we provided information materials for different focus groups namely companies, consumers and municipalities. Furthermore, we were present in schools, on events like neighbourhood celebrations or the climate week, in offices or private households to point out the dangers of chemicals for our own health and the well-being of our environment.

In future, we want to evolve the project with new approaches and ideas in follow-up projects.

NonHazCity 2 is the continuation and advancement of the project NonHazCity. Still on the search for hazardous substances in everyday life and how to avoid them, we are now focusing on spreading the expertise and knowledge of NonHazCity in the broad public.

Our focus is on developing DIY household and office check instructions that will empower everyone to identify and reduce hazardous substances at home and in the office, without any previous knowledge. Thematically, we are deepening our knowledge about hazardous substances in food contact materials and develop two brochures, one for catering services gastronomy and one for privates.

There will be an international plastic campaign and conference as well as chemical ambassadors that will reach out to the public. Additionally, the success of the chemical action plans and green public procurement measures that have been developed for and with municipalities in NonHazCity are analyzed and evaluated.

The NonHazCity 3 project addresses the link between circular economy, climate neutrality and smart procurement in building materials. Partner organizations from eight different countries are working together, learning from each other and raising awareness of hazardous substances in building materials across the Baltic Sea Region.
