Land-Sea-Act

Land-Sea-Act

The project Land-Sea-Act focuses on sustainable development and maritime spatial planning in coastal areas of the Baltic Sea Region. Many coastal areas are faced with man-made challenges, such as declining fish stocks, the effects of climate change and environmental degradation, leading to economic losses and population migration. Land-Sea-Act aims to counteract this by developing new concepts for sustainable use of the coastal habitat and its resources.

BEF Germany is one of 11 partners of the international team and works closely together with the Island Fehmarn. Climate change adaptation and mitigation, but also the protection of natural ecosystems and wildlife against water sports, are topics that will be examined and implemented in detail on the German Baltic Sea island in the coming years. This includes both a technical level (such as the demarcation of protected areas from buoys), but above all focuses on communication between representatives of different interest groups. Also, the tourism sector will be focused on, with the question of how to make it more sustainable and communicative regarding the interaction between humans and the sea.
